Safe Internet Alliance Honors “Safer Internet Day” With Tips for Parents on Internet Safety

Yesterday marked the 7th annual celebration of Safer Internet Day, which was initiated by the European Commission.  Around the world countries, companies, and individuals observed the internationally recognized day which aims to promote Internet safety and awareness.  The theme this year "Think B4 U Post" targeted the concept of more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones amongst young people.

Safe Internet Alliance’s president Linda Criddle had this to say about the event:

“On a day dedicated to Internet safety, it’s timely for parents and teachers to discuss Internet safety and security and online ethics to increase children’s understanding and awareness of potential risks as well as the responsibilities they have to themselves and others online.   Children are aware of the many exciting and empowering applications of the Internet. But what children lack is an understanding of every Internet user’s social responsibility to act appropriately, and the skills they need to safely maintain their privacy.”
