Follow-up On a Tune In: WTKF's View Point with Lockwood Phillips
Lockwood Phillips, of WTKF radio, interviewed Safe Internet Alliance's president Linda Criddle on teen's and twentysomething's use of the internet. Mentioning his own sons, Lockwood asked if the declaration that youth today don't care about privacy was true, or if this was industry hype perpetuating the idea that sharing everything about oneself is the new norm. Pointing to her own experiences with youth, as well as new research cited in The New York Times article Tell-All Generation Learns to Keep Things Offline Linda said she'd never met a teen or twentysomething who didn't want at least some of their information private. She also noted that since the beginning of the year she's had numerous college students say they've chosen to quit social networking or to strictly limit their friend circle as well as the information they share, citing concerns about information exposure, the feeling of exploitation by social networking companies, a desire to have more face-to-face time with close friends, and that too much social networking is 'a time suck'.
Particularly interesting, was that the interview with Linda was followed up in the program's second hour with a panel discussion among young twentysomethings, where they were asked directly about the comments Criddle made, and their own feelings about social networks. Every panelist agreed there was information they wanted private, and that they did not like that their information was traded in ways they weren't made explicitly aware of in advance.

I don't think it is right to
I don't think it is right to say the youth don't care about their privacy. They are just brought up at times when they have to share different personal information. For example, when you register in different social networks, you are encouraged to give as much personal information as you can. The more the better. I think it is a wrong policy of such social networks. The thing is the accounts can be easily hacked. Not long ago I came across this http://bytesland.com/view/Hack-Facebook-Password-Download-Free-Hack-Software-Rar . Of course, I haven't used it, but I think it is possible to hack the accout. And when it is hacked the user becomes very vulnerable. So what for to encourage people to share their personal information?

I agree. I think that the youth do care about their privacy. The times are just different. I think that the youth need to be aware of what types of information not to disclose. There are companies that work on facebook app development that allow you to limit the information shared when signing up to use the application. It is always better to choose to limit the information shared.
Privacy
I think when it comes to privacy young once are most keen to it as they have not understand yet on how to share or it could be that they are not that expressive on things they do. I suggest that for parents, they can talk about it and be open when talking private information. This is also a good way to communicate with their children if they have a secret or something.
