Common Sense Media Launches Digital Citizenship Curriculum

Common Sense Media has officially launched its pioneering free digital citizenship curriculum for middle schools - Digital Citizenship in a Connected Culture. The first three units of the curriculum are now available online. You can now check out the materials, read the lessons and watch the videos, at www.commonsensemedia.org/educators. The full, five-unit curriculum will be available in late August 2010.

Safe Internet Alliance Represented at the 2010 Computers Freedom and Privacy Conference

Safe Internet Alliance president Linda Criddle spoke at the 2010 Computers Freedom and Privacy Conference last week. Held in San Jose, the conferences focus this year was on how freedom and privacy are evolving in a networked society. Criddle represented the Alliance on the panel covering Safety vs. Liberty: The Rights of Minors in the Digital Age where she discussed the strong need for innovation in safety technologies to match the dynamic needs of families in modern online tools, the need to design products with safety in mind from the outset.

Follow-up On a Tune In: KMED The Bill Meyer Show

Bill Meyer, of WTKF radio, interviewed Safe Internet Alliance's president Linda Criddle on key steps to avoiding scams online. Mentioning his own experiences with scams, Meyer asked if people really did fall for some of the most persistent but seemingly obvious scams like the lottery and inheritances claims, and asked what consumers should know to help avoid scams. Criddle pointed Meyer and his listeners to the "14 Steps to avoiding Scams" blog that can be found on the Safe Internet Alliance website (make the title be a link to the blog).

Online Safety and Technology Working Group Report Delivered

The Online Safety and Technology Working Group, formed one year ago as an outcome of the  "Protecting Children in the 21st Century" Act. This groups mission was to review industry efforts and provide recommendations that would increase child safety online through education, labeling and family safety technologies.
