Framework for a Safe Internet: Know the facts, understand the issues, shape the future (October 20, 2009)

The Safe Internet Alliance's, "Framework for A Safe Internet" on October 20, 2009, was the Alliance's first event on Capitol Hill since its launch in May 2009. As the Administration, Congress, federal agencies and the states recognize the critical need to facilitate problem-solving across Internet “silos,” Safe Internet is working to bring together the many diverse voices and stakeholders involved in online safety and cyber security issues to discuss these issues in depth.
The event hosted close to 100 attendees from Safe Internet’s membership, Congressional and federal agency staff, companies, organizations, members of the media and the public. It featured three panels with 11 experts and moderators who offered ideas and research on a range of topics, from the facts about who is online to how to increase public awareness and highlight the demand for a safe Internet. Additionally, guest speakers Commissioner Pamela Jones Harbour, Federal Trade Commission, Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Representative Marsha Blackburn shared their perspectives on internet safety, enforcement, cyber security and Congress’s priorities for these issues.
